"We have seen Karthik finishing matches under pressure", chief selector MSK Prasad told a news conference.

The Indian team squad announcement for the cricket world cup 2019 will broadcast on Monday, April 15, 2019, from 3:30 pm onwards.

Khushdil's comments also come after Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur admitted that the national team are lacking a quality finisher going into the World Cup. Virat Kohli will captain the team while Rohit Sharma will be his deputy.

'It was definitely a case where we debated in length.

That the World Cup 2019 will again be played in England might have prompted the selectors to think about Karthik, who has a lot of experience in playing in UK.

"The second wicketkeeper comes into play only if Mahi (Mahendra Singh Dhoni) is injured". But the selectors went for the experience ahead of the exuberance of youth.

Prasad said that Vijay Shankar, an all-rounder, provides a "three-dimensional" option to Ambati Rayudu in the number 4 position.

Over 120 killed, almost 600 wounded in Libya fighting
The World Health Organization said 121 people have been killed in the fighting and another 561 have been wounded. The meeting was attended by Egypt's intelligence chief Abbas Kamel.

"After the Champions Trophy, we have tried quite a few middle-order batsmen, which also included Karthik, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey".

"And in the second part of the tournament, when the wickets will be more dry, we felt Jadeja will be handy".

'We did give a few more chances to Ambati Rayudu but Vijay Shankar gives three dimensions. We are looking at Vijay Shankar as a number four batsman.

KL Rahul will be kept as the reserve opener, as per Prasad. We also have Dinesh Karthik and Kedar Jadhav.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be the back-up pacer and Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are expected to start in all the big games, fitness permitting.

Another possible headache for the selectors could be whether to settle for a third spinner in form of Ravindra Jadeja or the fourth pacer.

England, ranked No.1 on the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Team rankings, have been widely touted as favourites for the mega-event.
