The video soon disappeared as a pinned tweet at the top of Trump's Twitter feed, but it was not deleted.

Now, on said Sunday night, Omar lamented that she's received a flurry of death threats ever since President Donald Trump tweeted a video that combined her comments from that speaking engagement with a clip that showed Ground Zero in Manhattan.

A video of Rep. Omar's speech, which was given at an event hosted by Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in March, was recently uploaded to the internet and sparked outrage, including among the lawmaker's colleagues on Capitol Hill.

When asked if he supports her, Sanders said, "I support a Muslim member of Congress not to be attacked every single day in outrageous, racist remarks". "And frankly, I'm exhausted of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be exhausted of it. CAIR was founded after 9/11, because they recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties". She said Muslims in America have lived as second-class citizens for far too long resulting in the founding of CAIR "because they recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to civil liberties".

"Certainly the president is wishing no ill will, and certainly not violence toward anyone", said Sanders, who called Trump's criticism of Omar a "good thing". "They will continue to monitor and address the threats she faces".

Pelosi announced on Sunday that U.S. Capitol Police and the House sergeant-at-arms "are conducting a security assessment to safeguard" Omar, he family and staff.

Raising her political profile but making her a target of anti-Muslim hate groups, the incident was something of a gift and a curse for Ms Omar.

Omar said in a statement posted on Twitter Sunday that numerous increased threats she had received were "directly referencing or replying to the President's video".

Global measles cases up by 300 percent in 2019
Mayor Bill de Blasio declared a public health emergency last week, requiring people living in parts of Brooklyn to get vaccinated. Measles is so contagious that 90 per cent of people who aren't immunised are infected if exposed to the virus.

Supporters of Muslim Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, of Minnesota, are demonstrating against President Trump's planned campaign stop in her home state on Monday, as the president continues to lash out against Omar for what some considered disrespectful or flippant language she had used to describe the 9/11 terrorist attackers.

Several prominent Democrats, including presidential candidates Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, condemned Trump's tweet, saying he was inciting racism and violence toward Omar with the video.

"President Trump must take down his disrespectful and unsafe video", she said, adding that security officials are reviewing Ms Omar's protection and "will continue to monitor and address the threats she faces". A spokesperson for Ms Omar explained that she misspoke and was supposed to say that its size had doubled since the attacks.

Omar's statement was taken seriously by Speaker Nancy Pelosi who called on Trump to "take down his disrespectful and risky video".

Representative Jerry Nadler, a New York Democrat who represents Manhattan's financial district, which was targeted on 9/11, said he had no issues with Ms Omar's characterisation of the attack.

One leading House Democrat, Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico, joined in the attack on Omar, telling MSNBC, "Those statements were not only hurtful to me, but extremely hurtful to everyone that was personally impacted by those terrorist attacks". House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Saturday criticized the president for using the "sacred" memory of 9/11 for a political attack.

She rocketed to global celebrity as an inspiration for women after the unexpected election win, and she became only the second leader to give birth while in office since Pakistan's Benazir Bhutto.
