Ajax, Barcelona, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have reached the final four of the competition, and three of the semi-finalists have a lot to thank Southampton for.

And though Allegri knows it's not just about one player, he has appeared to suggest that Messi is good enough to guide Barcelona to success.

SunSport however reports that winning the Champions League title remains the priority for the Old Lady who are on the verge of clinching the Serie A title for the eighth consecutive time.

'Football is not an exact science. Though the Portuguese head coach didn't enjoy the most successful of times with the Premier League club, he did win some trophies.

Having dug deep to sign Cristiano, Juventus' European elimination will have a clear financial impact, with the club's last-eight exit seeing them lose out on €16m (R252m) in prize money. The trophy has become synonymous with Ronaldo, and if he can not bring a European title to Turin, his time in Italy will be remembered as a failure.

Yankees give Kate Smith’s ‘God Bless America’ the heave-ho
But this season, the Yankees have ditched the song after discovering lyrics perceived to be racist in some of Smith's other songs. However, the team has since only played her version before important games.

"Ronaldo has had an incredible season", he told a news conference on Friday.

"He's the future of Juventus; an extraordinary player and he'll have another great season next year".

However, Allegri said that Juventus, who need one point at home to Fiorentina to claim an eighth successive Scudetto, needed to put Tuesday's quarter-final exit at the hands of Ajax Amsterdam behind them.

Clearly, it's a state of affairs that Cristiano will be far from pleased with, particularly given his personal contribution to the cause: before his two goals against Ajax, he was also the hat-trick hero in their epic comeback against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League last 16. "But football is made of joy and sadness".
