Much like the king of monsters it was named after, the Nissan GT-R is an incredibly powerful beast capable of destroying its toughest foes. Nonetheless, GT-R is 50 years old and Nissan is celebrating by launching a special edition.

The remaining changes largely mirror its "standard" GT-R siblings, with tweaks to steering, transmission and suspension settings for what Nissan chief product specialist for the GT-R Hiroshi Tamura calls "the ultimate track and street vehicle". Response has also been improved thanks to new turbochargers with a turbine similar to the one used in the GT-R Nismo GT3 race vehicle.

The more substantial changes concern the more extreme GT-R Track Edition and GT-R Nismo models, but the base auto, known as the Premium, benefits from a special 50th anniversary package that's available with the GT-R's iconic Bayside Blue paint.

The 50th Anniversary Edition GT-R is also sportier, with upgrades including a refined "R" mode designed for exiting corners more quickly on the road or on track days, plus gear shift paddles so you can keep your hands on the wheel. The GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition is paired with white stripe. Will people line up for this anniversary version of the 370Z, or will it later be remembered as just one more misstep by Nissan? A new titanium muffler should reduce weight while looking cool with burnished exhaust tips.

The dash of the GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition is wrapped in a seamless piece of Nappa leather. The GT-R's chassis is enhanced with a retuned suspension that should help the auto ride smoother and corner better. Other color combos include Pearl White with red stripes and Super Silver with white stripes.

That came after Ovechkin tied it at 1 with 9:25 remaining in the second and with 8 seconds left on a hooking minor to Teravainen. The Hurricanes were able to kill off the penalty and hold onto their 2-1 lead for the duration of the game.

The Track Edition and the hard-core NISMO model get redesigned turbochargers from the latest GT-R GT3 race vehicle. Optional extras added for 2020 include Brembo carbon-ceramic brake rotors (16.1 inches front and 15.3 inches rear) and a carbon fiber roof.

The Nissan GT-R, an R35 to those who know their GT-Rs from their Skylines, was unveiled to the world in 2007 and on sale in the United States the following year as a 2009 model.

Pricing still hasn't been announced, but the 2020 GT-R Nismo will hit dealers this summer.

Speaking of, the MY2020 Nissan GT-R Nismo also broke cover at the same event, flexing its performance muscle with reworked styling and a more potent engine.

Although the power numbers of the twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 (600 horsepower and 481 lb-ft of torque) have not changed, acceleration response was improved by 20 percent. For that matter, the anniversary treatment is available on Premium and Track models as well.
