National Weather Service issues Flash Flood Warning for Lynchburg area

"Heavy rain will become likely late tonight through Saturday morning", the National Weather Service announced. Coastal and interior areas were included in ME, while New Hampshire's Lakes Region through northern areas were under the watch.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for all of the North Country, saying heavy rain Friday night and over the weekend could push streams and rivers into flood stage.

"Showers and some thunderstorms, locally heavy, will move across the area this morning", the watch, updated at 3:55 a.m., states.

"A Flash Flood Watch means that there is the potential for flash flooding which can be life-threatening".

The heavy rain could cause rapid accumulation, leading to risky flash floods, weather.gov says. There will also be minor flooding in low lying areas and poor drainage spots.

Flash Flood Watches are in effect for much of the area, Flash Flood Warnings are posted in several counties, and Coastal Flood Statements apply to a few counties.

Temperature highs will be around 66 degrees. There's a chance for some pop-up showers after 11 a.m.
