County Issues Public Health Warning as Measles Outbreaks Continue

The Tennessee Department of Health is investigating a case of measles after the State Public Health Laboratory confirmed a positive test for the illness in a resident of the East Tennessee. Health officials on Monday said 555 measles cases have been confirmed in the U.S.so far this year.

New York Schools Close Down The New York City Health Department has issued closure orders to four more schools this week for failing to comply with the Commissioner's orders to provide access to medical and attendance records regarding the measles outbreak. "This appearance of measles is a reminder about the importance of vaccines and how they can particularly protect our most vulnerable, including infants and those with compromised immune systems". The second vaccination of measles vaccine is now required in IL for all children kindergarten through 12th grade.

Among all states, Maryland had the 12th-lowest percentage of kindergartners who were unvaccinated for at least one condition during the 2017-2018 school year, the most recent year for which data were available. The message stated that there was "no need for alarm, but as a district, we want to be prepared as possible to mitigate the spread of measles". They include high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes.

The health department holds monthly childhood immunization clinics.

The experts say the best chance of avoiding measles is having the MMR vaccine.

There have been 3,920 cases of measles in Israel from March 2018 through April 11, said Grotto, who is also a professor of epidemiology and public health at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
