Gleason says as long as the other barriers hold and rain overnight is not heavier than expected, much of the flooding should be contained to a few blocks.

As well, the flood warning has been extended through Monday afternoon for the Tippecanoe River near Ora and Monday evening for the Yellow River in Knox.

The Mississippi River at the Quad Cities in Iowa and IL reached a new record high Thursday.

Meanwhile, cities downstream remain largely dry, but are preparing for a flood threat that could stretch into the summer.

"Our teams are on the ground and we will know more soon", HESCO Group said.

"The reality is, we have to take a look at if the rain keeps flowing and the flood keeps flooding, we have to wait until that recedes until we can come in and make long-term changes", said Frank Klipsch, the mayor of Davenport. "We want to protect it and our citizens".

The Mississippi River at Chester on Friday was at almost 37 feet with the weather service forecasting it to crest at more than 43 feet by Monday.

The flood emergency happened around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, in downtown Davenport, according to the Weather Channel.

"Rounds of additional rain in Iowa and IL and a melt of snow cover from some April storms pushed the river higher since late April", Erdman added.

The floodwaters had overtaken vehicles and the first floors of some buildings on the river's edge, and rescue crews could be seen launching boats into the floodwaters to retrieve people stranded by the sudden surge.
