Nest Hub Max is a lot like the smaller Google Home Hub which has been rebranded to the Nest Home Hub. To enroll, you use the Google Home app to snap some selfies, which are sent to the Nest Hub Max. "Nest Hub Max is specifically designed for those shared places in the home where your family and friends gather", says Rishi Chandra, Vice President of Product and General Manager, Google Home and Nest. The Nest Hub Max also supports video chat/call using Google Duo. Here's what it's like.

The Nest Hub Max isn't much of a surprise. Also, you can point the camera at restaurant menus and it will highlight which dishes are the most popular at the location which definitely helps if you're an indecisive person. Google has admitted that the end of Works With Nest will break any rules you've set up involving its products.

"Nothing is streamed or recorded unless you know it", Rick Osterloh, SVP of Devices and Services, emphasized on Tuesday during its annual Google I/O conference in Mountain View, California.

In another hardware move, the tech giant said it would rebrand its "Home" hardware - including the Home line of smart speakers - as "Nest", reflecting the "smart" thermostat maker it purchased in 2014. It has the ability to keep faces in the frame thanks to facial recognition software.

Harry Kane's half-time pep-talk inspires Tottenham fightback against Ajax

GOOGLE'S ANNOUNCEMENT that it is to merge the Nest brand into its offering didn't mention the downside that is now hitting customers. The AI is also smart enough to compose an email and reply to a text while accepting voice commands from you as it can now differentiate between composing a text or email and a command. According to Google, you'll be able to pause music by raising your hand - if, say, it's too loud in your house for Google Assistant to hear you - and then resume with the same gesture when you're ready. Although the switch doesn't physically break the circuit, it does add a level of assurance and privacy badly needed for devices like these. Numerous standard Nest features apply, including motion alerts and notifications when the camera detects an unknown person in your home.

This is all impressive, but it sort of eliminates the best thing about the Home Hub-Nest Hub, whatever it's called now. If you choose to enable this feature, the device's camera will create a face model it can use to recognize you when you walk in front of the camera.

The Nest Hub Max will be available sometime over winter in Australia for $349.
