The Reds were Premier League runners-up for 2018/19, finishing one point behind Manchester City with 97 points - the most of any other team not to win the title.

Virgil van Dijk also saluted Liverpool's effort, as the PFA Player of the Year declared his team should be pleased with their efforts. But here, that's how it is, no problem with that because that's the competition we are in.

"They want to win the Premier League".

Liverpool have not won the title in the Premier League era and Klopp has rallied his troops for one final challenge, in what has been a thrilling race with City to top the table.

By winning their final fixture at Brighton, Pep Guardiola's imperious City climbed to 98 points and rendered the Liverpool result academic. We all know how privileged we are to do what we do and we know the rewards are totally out of proportion with what other people in society get for doing jobs that are far more important than ours.

Fortunately, the Reds came away from that two-legged semi-final triumph largely unscathed, but it will still be a hard afternoon up against a Wolves outfit who have impressed thoroughly in their first season back in the top flight.

"They have 198 points in two years; that's special".

The Merseyside outfit head into the final round of fixtures on a high after having secured their place in the Champions League final for the second season running thanks to their stunning 4-0 win over FC Barcelona at Anfield on Tuesday night. This is a first step, that's how we see it.

The Reds, who last won the league in 1990, face Tottenham in the Champions League final on Saturday, 1 June.

"The team made so many big steps in the past year". We feel it. It is disappointing, it is not a wonderful moment but we have enough time to see and feel how brilliant the season was. "We will fight next season for the title".

"But even factoring that in, purely on a human level, the impact of a season on family and friends is big".

"This club is in the best moment for a long time and it will not end because another team has one more point". Always after a good year we lost key players [in the past] but we won't [this time] so we'll be there again.

"I thought they would fall in the last month, incredible credit to them, they played like champions all season, they have performed like a champion team".

Liverpool strikers Salah and Mane both ended the season on 22 league goals, sharing the "Golden Boot" award with Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. We were unlucky against City but scored in the last second against Everton and late on against Newcastle - they could have been draws as well. Our target during the week was to get 97 points, we got that - that's special.
