The Dallas Mavericks have reportedly opened an investigation after forward Kristaps Porzingis was left bloodied and beaten in a nightclub altercation in his native Latvia over the weekend.

Video footage on social media shows the 23-year-old Porzingis in the street outside the club, visibly upset with blood on his forehead and his shirt torn.

Based on these reports and TMZ's report on the incident, it appears Porzingis may have been jumped by a group of Russians angry that he switched teams.

The Mavericks released the following statement: "It is our understanding that Kristaps was jumped and assaulted outside of a club in Latvia". "We will provide an update when one is available".

Hitz, replacing injured Roman Buerki, also brought down Dodi Lukebakio for a second-half penalty which the forward fired wide. The Bundesliga title race is set to go down to the final day of the season for the first time in ten years.

Porzingis did not play for either the Mavericks or Knicks last season, instead choosing to continue rehabbing from a torn left ACL that he suffered on February 6, 2018. A team source told the Dallas Morning News' Brad Townsend that Porzingis was "sucker punched" in the altercation.

It is not known who shot the original 32-second video of Porzingis outside of a bar.

National Basketball Association superstar Kristaps Porzingis of the Dallas Mavericks was attacked at a Latvian nightclub on Saturday, according to multiple reports. A woman accused him of rape in late March, which was picked up by news outlets in early April. Porzingis has denied the accusations, but police are investigating.
