Only one remained hospitalized as of May 10, and that student was at Littleton Adventist Hospital in fair condition, according to a hospital spokesperson. One of the students tells Fox31 the timing was coincidental.

The two Colorado teenagers accused of opening fire with handguns at their Denver-area charter school this week, killing one classmate and wounding eight others, are due to face formal charges in court next week, authorities said on Friday.

Charges won't be filed against the suspects in a suburban Denver school shooting until next week.

Kendrick Castillo, the 18-year-old senior killed during the shooting, and two classmates at the school have been credited with helping thwart the attack by charging at one of the shooters when he entered a classroom.

An individual claiming to be a STEM parent made several allegations regarding the school's culture when she called Douglas County School District's (DCSD) Board of Education director Wendy Vogel in December 2018.

The suspects, identified as Devon Erickson, 18, and Alec McKinney, a juvenile, were scheduled to be formally charged Friday. However, court spokesman Rob McCallum said that both the prosecutors and defense agreed to delay the hearing until Wednesday.

McKinney is now being held on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, and is legally old enough to be tried as an adult in Colorado, though District Attorney George Brauchler has yet to decide whether to file adult charges.

According to Denver 7, city law enforcement sources, Erickson's parents had purchased the guns legally. The students said they just wanted to talk about their classmates.

The security guard who detained the second armed suspect was employed by Boss High Level Protection, a company started by a former SWAT team leader who responded to the Columbine shooting. Investigators have offered no motive and refused to discuss how the students obtained the weapons.

Following the public backlash, the Brady Campaign released a statement that said, in part: "We are deeply sorry any part of this vigil did not provide the support, caring and sense of community we sought to foster and facilitate and which we know is so crucial to communities who suffer the trauma of gun violence". The adult suspect is being held without bond for investigation on one count of first-degree murder and 29 counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Josh Dutton, 18, said he was close friends with Erickson in middle school but had not seen him for four years while attending a different high school. The officer split his time between the two schools.

The STEM campus is located just seven miles from Columbine High School, where 13 people were killed and more than 20 were injured on April 20, 1999 - just over 20 years ago.

Eucker said in a statement on Thursday that STEM contacted the school's 2,800 parents seeking information on the complaints.
