The team said it will start looking for a new general manager immediately, but head coach Adam Gase will assume interim duties until a hire is made.

Also let go was VP of player personnel Brian Heimerdinger, according to a report.

The timing is particularly unusual because Maccagnan ran the Jets' draft less than three weeks ago, including taking defensive tackle Quinnen Williams with the No. 3 overall pick.

Rumors of a rift between Maccagnan and Gase floated across NY for weeks, but both were adamant publicly that they shared a healthy working relationship. "We have discussions on everything".

One personnel man with Bears ties who won't be joining the Jets: Former Chicago defensive back and associate personnel director Dwayne Joseph, who last week left his post in the Eagles personnel department to become the new Oakland Raiders director of pro scouting.

Presumably the PM and ministers have noticed that mortgaging the UK's Brexit future to Jeremy Corbyn is haemorrhaging the Tory vote.

Maccagnan, who was responsible for Bowles' hiring, was brought to NY from the Texans after spending 15 seasons in Houston.

The New York Jets are once again a sh-tshow. The first-rounders have been starters - Adams, Darron Lee (2016) and Williams (2015) - but Lee's role appears uncertain with the Jets having Mosley and Avery Williamson at the inside linebacker spots.

If Maccagnan were going to lose this power struggle in the end, it goes without saying it would've been better for the Jets to realize that months ago before making those signings and moving forward with the draft.

ESPN suggests the GM position could be taken up by Philadelphia Eagles executive Joe Douglas, who has some ties to Gase.

In the meantime, Gase will oversee all roster moves as the Jets enter the next phase of the offseason with organized team activities set to begin next week.
