Wild video shows window washers trapped on swinging lift

Streets around downtown Oklahoma City's Devon Energy tower, and Myriad Botanical Gardens, could be closed for days as damage from an early-morning accident high on the tower's exterior is assessed.

Emergency responders quickly sprung into action and arrived on the scene.

David Macy said the two workers were pulled to safety around 8:30 a.m. after rescuers secured the basket with ropes.

HST, the PTWC issued a new statement, saying "a tsunami threat exists for parts of the pacific located closer to the quake ". The reported epicentre lies within the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, an area of regular seismic activity.

Workers were on the lift when the basket became loose, and started swinging "out of control".

Fire department spokesman Benny Fulkerson told Oklahoma television station KOCO that the two men were "tethered in" to the lift when the crane was swinging. Macy said the incident is under investigation.

It isn't clear if the window washers are injured, but firefighters have reportedly managed to stabilize the scaffold and are about to launch a rescue attempt.

"I'm extremely proud of the teams' work. It wasn't luck. They knew what they were doing and they implemented their plan perfectly", Walker said at the news conference.
