Missouri's Republican-led House on Friday passed sweeping legislation created to survive court challenges, which would ban abortions at eight weeks of pregnancy.

The 31-year-old Barbadian singer, who shared a photo grid of Alabama legislators on her official social media account, kicked against the new act while calling out the lawmakers.

These extremist Republican lawmakers know what the law is - but they don't care.

"Politicians are putting the health and lives of Missouri women at risk in their race to make our state the one that overturns Roe v. Wade at the Supreme Court", M'Evie Mead, director of policy and organizing for Planned Parenthood Advocates in Missouri, said in a statement.

Another element of Warren's abortion-rights proposal urges passage of legislation that would prevent private health insurers from constraining abortion access.

The plan came in response to recent attacks on women's reproductive rights in Alabama, Georgia and Missouri.

The Alabama law, like each so-called "heartbeat" bill, which bans abortions after the detection of a fetal heartbeat, is being challenged in the courts and is not in effect.

All of the state bans have either been blocked by a judge or are headed for the courts, and some of their backers have said they want the issue to go all the way to the nine-member Supreme Court. Many of these bills are a direct affront to Black women and women of color who lack access to sufficient health care due to income inequality and health care access through full-time employment. More than 70 percent of Americans-including 52 percent of Republicans-do not believe Roe v. Wade should be overturned.

Gostin said what he sees happening instead is the continued trend of conservative states restricting access to abortion.

Elizabeth Warren is calling for Democrats to enshrine the right to abortion in federal statute, repeal the Hyde Amendment, and reverse the Trump administration's domestic gag rule.

"I am appalled that I could get a more severe penalty (up to 99 years in prison) for providing safe abortion care than someone who commits second-degree rape", Robinson said. The typical provision in other states is to allow abortions until 24 weeks or often later.

The Grammy Award-winning singer joined other A-list celebs in pushing back against the legislation, which prevents abortion in almost all cases, including cases of rape and incest.

The Missouri bill, HB 126, would also change the state's parental notification requirements so that rather than needing written consent from one parent in order for a minor to have an abortion, both parents would need to be notified.
