Bodexpress Jockey Falls Off Horse At Beginning of Preakness

West took Maximum Security off the Triple Crown trail, but Casse was eager to get War of Will back on the track two years after Classic Empire finished second in the Preakness.

Congrats Gal faltered in the upper stretch of the Miss Preakness Stakes in 83F (28C) heat and was eased to the finish line.

Trainer Bill Mott decided against entering Country Horse in the Preakness, citing illness. The 1951 race was the last time the Preakness was run without the top four finishers from the Derby.

War of Will, a War Front colt, was making a similar move in the Kentucky Derby when Maximum Security shifted out, directly in front of him.

Kentucky Derby victor Country House will not participate at Pimlico, and neither will Maximum Security, who finished first at Churchill Downs before being disqualified moments later.

So where does that leave Saturday's race? And two-time Triple Crown winning trainer Bob Baffert said he probably won't take Improbable to the Belmont after finishing out of the money in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness as the favourite. They'll be joined by nine other entrants.

It was the first Preakness run without the Kentucky Derby victor since 1996, but the 13-horse field was the largest since 2011.

Manchester United hoping to attract De Ligt
Ajax captain Matthjis de Ligt remains open to the prospect of joining Manchester United this summer, according to the Telegraph . He has captained Ajax to the Dutch league and cup titles and nearly led them to the Champions League final as well.

"He wasn't behaving well in the gate", Velazquez told NBCSN after the race. The Stronach Group is committed to the welfare and safety of horses above all and we are saddened by what happened today. I was extremely proud, but a lot of people (asked), is this revenge? No. It's hard to win six in a row. They always run big here. Technically, Bodexpress gets a did-not-finish. For many, the credentials of the 13-horse field scarcely mattered. Last year, only seven challengers turned out to face Justify at Pimlico.

Kentucky Derby victor Country House and disqualified victor Maximum Security are not running. "... Let's put it in plain numbers: Maybe the horse is worth $600,000 now". "We just won the Preakness".

It just wasn't the start to the race he was expecting. "I don't know what it is. But on paper, it looks like there should be a significant amount of speed". Casse said to Barber with a Cheshire cat grin. "It's going to be tougher, but he's a nice horse to ride. I really don't care who was in it".

War of Will was unfazed starting from the inside No. 1 post position for the second consecutive race, even though that contributed to his rough run at Churchill Downs.

While War of Will crossed the wire with Tyler Gaffalione aboard in 1:54.1 to win by 1 1/4 lengths, Everfast placed second by a nose, Owendale finished third and Warrior's Charge settled for fourth on a fast track at Pimlico. And he did so in a race featuring a riderless horse that threw his jockey out of the gate and kept running. I think if you can do it you should do it. I lost my balance, and I went off. He came off the fence going into the turn and I thought about waiting to go outside him (but) he kept going out, out, out. "I am extremely proud of his Derby to overcome so much adversity that afternoon and even dating back to the Louisiana Derby mishap". We felt he didn't get a fair shot (in the Derby).

The horse collapsed after an eight-horse race at Pimlico Race Course, which is hosting the Preakness Stakes Saturday, CBS Baltimore reported. NBC will televise the race.
