Born Reginald Dwight in Middlesex, England, Elton John - whose stage name is half stolen from a friend, and half from John Lennon of the Beatles - went on to become one of the world's best-selling artists.

Egerton plays the singer in the biopic, taking on the role of the openly gay performer.

This month, Kingsman star Taron Egerton swaps tailored suits and ultra-violence for sequins and songs in Rocketman, director Dexter Fletcher's biopic about music superstar Elton John.

John previously said that he believes it was important that Egerton sung in the movie, and that he's satisfied with the results: "It was so important that the music I composed and recorded had to be sung by Taron". At Cannes, Egerton took most of the lead vocal portions of the song while John attacked the piano and sang harmony.

"Elton John is somebody that I think I know incredibly well, but then also it's like watching a film about somebody you don't know at all", says David Furnish, who's been with John for 26 years.

He added, "If people don't like it, review-wise, or it doesn't make one dollar, it's the movie I wanted to make and that's all that counts".

At the party John performed I'm Still Standing before being joined by Taron Egerton, who plays him in the film for a rendition of Rocket Man. "He's very astute in that way".

Egerton also performs all the songs himself in "Rocketman". Paramount releases the biopic on May 31st and there are going to be plenty of comparisons to Bohemian Rhapsody, which is both fair and unfair at the same time.
