With Alabama's restrictive new abortion law stirring divisions on the right, President Donald Trump is imploring anti-abortion activists to stay united for the 2020 election.

The US president tweeted on Sunday, stating that the procedure is only appropriate as a result of rape, incest or when the life of the mother is at stake.

Trump, who is seeking to expand on his conservative support ahead of his re-election bid, added: "The Radical Left, with late term abortion (and worse), is imploding on this issue".
