A former Dundee man caught up in a weird onstage clash at a music awards ceremony has said the incident should not detract from celebrating the work of Ghanian musicians.

Stonebwoy who was unpleased with the action of his rival allegedly pulled out a gun during the scuffle as his "Bhim Nation" gang mobbed Shatta Wale and his militant group.

It all started when Stonebwoy was announced the victor of the 2019 Reggae/dancehall Artiste of the Year.

This was as a resulted of a heated squabble between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale as well as their crew members.

In a video that surfaced online, Stonebwoy was seen holding a gun while he was being held back by security operatives.

Subsequently, the police invited Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy and the officials of Charterhouse, the organisers of the 2019 VGMA, to assist with investigations into the disturbance that rocked the event.

The event was halted for almost an hour but continued, however with an altered program lineup with the Artiste of the Year and Song of the Year awards not presented.

Barbara Oteng Gyasi says the brawl could have been prevented had her Ministry and Charter House looked at security at the event seriously.

Some have suggested that Shatta Wale and his team's walk up to the stage was to congratulate Stonebwoy for the award but Stonebwoy and his team believe that Shatta Wale was up to harm them.

He said "Once you see POLICE and inside of a CELL you know what we call a TOY GUN!"

The two had been granted police enquiry bail as of press time yesterday.
