Houston baking in summerlike temps for Memorial Day weekend

Temperatures will reach the 70-degree mark or a little bit better Thursday afternoon.

There's an elevated risk for strong to severe thunderstorms during the afternoon on Thursday.

Monday, May 27: Memorial Day will be picture flawless and not as warm with mostly sunny skies and a high in the mid 70s. This means the "Muggy Meter" will climb overnight with dew points in the 60s.

Let's back up to today's forecast, when we do have clouds increasing and just a chance for a few morning showers and then another round of showers later in the day.

Rain and thunder will continue to move across Kansas into the night with threats of heavy rain and some gusty winds to 50 miles per hour. Temperatures are a touch lower, with readings in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. Most of the western part of the state could see wet weather throughout the day on Saturday and again on Sunday.

The log from Wednesday morning revealed that two of the infant's siblings were accounted for, but not the infant. The child was reportedly left in the vehicle for five hours while it was parked in front of the daycare center.

Chief Meteorologist Ross Janssen says that heavy rains, hail, and some wind can be expected with storm chances continuing into the holiday weekend.

Friday - Mostly sunny skies, breezy. A couple stray thunderstorms are possible, especially later during the day. Sunday will also be very warm.

Sunday - Sunny skies, warmer.

And while the roads have cleared up, the Arizona Department of Transportation said drivers still need to buckle up and be mindful of their speed, as there were seven fatal crashes on Arizona roadways last Memorial Day weekend.
