Number of Mysterious US Tourist Deaths in Dominican Republic Hits 6

Multiple news outlets recently publicized the deaths of three American tourists at the Bahia Principe, another resort area in the Dominican Republic. Robert Bell Wallace, 67, of California was staying at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana when he had a scotch from the minibar in his room. Wallace died the day of the wedding, Tickenoff told the station.

Five days later, Edward Nathaniel Holmes, 63, and Cynthia Day, 49, of Prince George's County, Md., were found dead in their room at Luxury Bahia Principe Bouganville, a nearby hotel, after they failed to check out.

The family of Glenside resident Yvette Monique Sport said she died in 2018 at a Bahia Principe Resort on the Dominican Republic after having a drink from the minibar.

Wallace, who was reportedly urinating blood, died three days after falling ill at the resort.

"He started feeling very sick, he had blood in his urine and stool right afterward", Arnold said of her uncle, who had arrived in the country with his wife a day earlier. Her cause of death was due to a "heart attack", said her sister, Felecia Nieves. Arnold said he had been fine until he drank the scotch.

According to Arnold, a hotel doctor had checked on Wallace and decided he needed to be hospitalized on April 13.

"People report food-borne illnesses but it's possible that they experienced some other type of contamination", said Patrick Quade, founder of, adding that he had consulted with scientists with regards to the findings.

"We were either going to lose all our money or we were going to get to go somewhere else".

Meanwhile, a DE woman named Tammy Lawrence-Daley said she was attacked in the Dominican Republic at another all-inclusive resort while she was vacationing with her husband and some friends.

Kaylynn Knull said she and her boyfriend enjoyed their vacation until they noticed their room beginning to smell of chemicals.

The Dominican Republic's prosecutor's office said forensics experts are performing toxicological and other tests to determine the causes of death of Holmes and Day.

Following Wallace's death, it was reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation would now investigate the deaths.
