Matthijs de Ligt confirmed to NOS that Cristiano Ronaldo asked him to join Juventus after Portugal's 1-0 win over Netherlands on Sunday night.

De Ligt and Van De Beek had been hoping to cap a campaign to cherish with more silverware, having played a key role in Ajax's domestic double and their eye-catching run to the Champions League semi-finals. "What I answered? I didn't understand him at first".

Asked what colour shirt he would be wearing next season, he said: "I don't know".

"I don't know, I don't know", he said when asked where he will be next season.

Well, a certain Cristiano Ronaldo tried to put Juve's name into the conversation after Portugal's win against Netherlands.

De Ligt is the hottest property on the market and has been heavily linked with both Manchester United and Barcelona as well as the French giants.

"I will go on vacation now", the 19-year-old told TV Univision. "I am going to think about what's best for me and then I will decide". "Of course I would like him to come to Barcelona but we will see what happens".

"It's not up to me to say what he's going to do or his thoughts".

'He is a really good guy, a really good player he is a good professional who always trains extra and he is a really good guy'.

Donny van de Beek is in no hurry to add himself to an anticipated close-season exodus from Ajax.

Despite Juventus' - or rather Ronaldo's - interest, speculation suggests that Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are the two most eager suitors for the Dutch wonderkid, though Premier League sides Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City are also thought to be monitoring the situation.

"It's important for a young player to play".

Additionally, the player is also fit enough considering his age, to develop the long-term project at the Old Trafford proposed by Ole Solskjaer this summer. "That's normal in Holland, in the Dutch league, you see that a lot of times".
