Ford recalls 1.3M vehicles for suspension, transmission woes

The Explorer SUV recall applies to 2011 to 2017 model Explorer models.

Ford is aware of one report of a crash with minor injuries related to this condition in the markets included in this service action.

Affected vehicles were built at the Chicago Assembly Plant from May 17, 2010 to January 25, 2017. The Ford reference number for this recall is 19S17.

"A fracture of a rear toe link significantly diminishes steering control, increasing the risk of a crash", it added and when one customer's toe link broke they reported hitting the kerb.

The automaker announced the recalls Wednesday, saying it is not aware of any injuries related to the issues.

Ford is also recalling select 2013 F-150s with 6-speed automatic transmissions.

The third recall is only being issued in Canada and affects approximately 12,000 vehicles. A previous software update didn't work.

The Ford Focuses that have a malfunctioning part which could cause the cars to stall and increase the risk of a crash. Those vehicles were assembled at Ford's Dearborn plant between May 7, 2012, and October 27, 2013; and its Kansas City plant from April 18, 2012, to November 18, 2013. Those trucks have a calibration issue in the transmission and have already been recalled before to reprogram software in the powertrain control module.

The reference number for the Ford F-150 recall is 19S19.

The fourth recall affects select 2009-2016 Ford Econoline vehicles equipped with a 5R110W transmission, 5.4-liter engine, and a school bus or ambulance prep package. The Canadian recalls are limited to the provinces of Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan and include select 2010-2017 Ford Taurus, 2009-2017 Ford Flex, 2009-2015 Lincoln MKS and 2010-2017 Lincoln MKT vehicles. The concerns, in this case, are with a weld in the clutch that could fail and prevent them from moving.

Dealers will replace the left and right toe links, which keep weight on the tires.
