Shenmue 3’s publisher is refusing refunds for complaints about its Epic exclusivity

This exclusivity was apparently chosen as Epic have been an important partner in the development of Shenmue III in helping with supporting development via the Unreal Engine.

A new trailer for Shenmue III has dropped during the E3 PC Gaming Show.

The Kickstarter update (link below) is now being bombarded with comments from angry backers who are either demanding a Steam key or a complete refund. "Exclusive" may have less to do with only being available through Epic's launcher, and more to do with not being available on Steam, obviously Epic's biggest competitor. They've taken to the Kickstarter page to voice their displeasure.

While I understand the frustration - especially given the announcement at the 11 hour - the anger seems disproportionate.

He started to say more but then stopped himself, quipping, "My mother would say, Joey, focus". You know, I'm actually a very honest guy".

"We love Itchio and Steam, and are happy to say we'll be bringing our goose to these platforms in future".

While its developers never outright promised that the game would make its way to Steam, they did suggest as much. Still, it's exciting for "Shenmue" fans to get a new trailer, as the third installment of the game is a long time coming.

Shenmue III is the latest game to become a timed PC exclusive on Epic Game Store. Deep Silver and Suzuki's studio, Ys Net, announced the exclusivity deal in a Kickstarter update today, saying that Epic was the "the best distribution platform option" when they were "looking for the most enjoyable experience on PC".
