"We should welcome the congregation's call to dialogue and listening on gender, and I hope that conversation will now begin".

And therefore, the Vatican ministry that deals with Catholic education considers that we are "facing a true and proper educational emergency, particularly as regards issues of affectivity and sexuality ".

It denounced theories that attempted to "annihilate the concept of nature" and "educational programs and legislative trends that. make a radical break with the actual biological difference between male and female".

Contemporary Programs Ministry, a USA advocacy group for LGBT Catholics, has described the doc as a "corrupt tool" that would possibly perchance be faded to "oppress and damage now no longer handiest transgender americans, but lesbian, ecstatic, bisexual americans, too".

The Vatican said in a statement that the document's objective "is to support those engaged in the education of the younger generations to address ... the issues most debated today on human sexuality".

The document called gender fluidity a "confused concept of freedom" and "momentary desires" that characterize post-modern culture and rejected terms like "intersex" and "transgender".

She said she thinks there is still an element of confusion around gender, and a document like this will just continue to confuse people as it denies the idea that there is a spectrum of both sex and gender.

It is not signed by Pope Francis himself, but quotes him and scripture within its reasoning.

However, Francis would likely not disagree with the document's claims, given in 2015 he compared transgender people to nuclear weapons, saying the concept of gender identity "does not recognize the order of creation".

"The misinformation the document contains will cause families to reject their children, and it will increase alienation of LGBT people from the Church", he said.

"The only truth that the document reveals is that the Vatican remains ill-equipped to discuss gender and sexuality in the modern world", he continued.

"Sadly, it will be used as a cudgel against transgender people, and an excuse to argue that they shouldn't even exist", he added.

And while great care must be taken to respect and provide care for persons who "live situations of sexual indeterminacy", those who teach in the name of the Catholic Church must help young people understand that being created male and masculine or female and feminine is part of God's plan for them.

The timing of its release, however, during the heart of Pride Month, led some to wonder whether Vatican bureaucracy was making a point. Italy also observes Pride Month in June and a pride parade was held in Rome over the weekend. "They are especially harmful for children".
