Monday's race at Michigan International Speedway provided the latest layer of the Joey Logano-Martin Truex Jr. rivalry.

Logano led 163 of the 203 laps of the race, which was moved back a day after being rained out Sunday. It was the pole sitter's second win of the season, and the 23rd of his career in a Cup vehicle.

Logano held off Busch in overtime to secure the win. Daniel Suarez 5. Kyle Busch 6. Six laps later, Logano took back the lead yet again.

On lap 70, Kyle Weatherman - running his first Monster Energy Cup Series race of the year - hit the wall in turn two and part of his rear end detached, leading to a debris caution.

After winning the pole for the FireKeepers Casino 400, Joey Logano said sure his vehicle was fast for one lap.

Joey Logano selected the outside lane as Martin Truex Jr started on the inside lane.

He and Kurt Busch were trailing eventual victor Joey Logano - and making progress in a two-car draft. He will be joined up front by Aric Almirola. "That one felt good", Logano says with a smile.

"He jumped the restart by over a auto length", Truex said. "He thinks his way through a lot of situations, and I think the more information you give him at that point - that was where I got to, was OK, let's give him all the information we can so he can make good decisions about he wants to handle this last restart". I was going to push Truex right through the #22.

Logano did what he did at Pocono Raceway seven years ago this evening at Michigan International Speedway, but driving for Team Penske.

The race was delayed from Sunday due to rain, but Logano dominated from the drop of the green flag. "I'm very proud of the effort that we've had really the last few weeks, from the execution side. I thought we were suppose to go in the box".

Logano earned Team Penske's fifth Cup victory of the season. You get a run on somebody and you can't make a complete pass and by the time you get to the next corner you have been passed by four. Owner Roger Penske was in Washington, where Simon Pagenaud was welcomed to the White House in recognition of his Indianapolis 500 victory.

The next four races on the schedule - at Sonoma, Chicagoland, Daytona and Kentucky - are at places where Truex, Busch and Erik Jones won past year.

"Logano knew he had to go early and that was his best chance to squirt ahead of the #19". "My mindset there was at least we got a shot at it here". He worked his way back into contention but finished seventh. Truex won there previous year.
