The summit held in Bishkek is being attended by SCO member countries.

The Chinese president said the two nations need to constantly broaden the channels for cooperation, conduct cooperation in such areas as investment, industrial capacity and tourism, make a bigger cake of common interests, jointly promote regional inter-connectivity, including the construction of the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor, in a bid to better boost common development.

Khan has twice written to Prime Minister Modi, seeking resumption of dialogue on all issues, including Kashmir.

Khan said the SCO summit provided Pakistan with a "fresh outlet" to develop its relationship with other countries, including India.

They said that the Indian officials in Pakistan were constantly in contact with PM Khan since taking office, adding that Khan had said in April that Modi's win at the polls could help settle the Kashmir showdown. "And, yes, it will be an opportunity to speak to the Indian leadership during this SCO conference", he added.

Prime Minister Modi met President Xi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit here and discussed the full spectrum of bilateral relations. Mr Xi also congratulated Prime Minister Modi on his poll victory.

All the leaders were seen interacting with each other at the events except Indian and Pakistan. Two events took place on the first day - an informal dinner hosted by President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov and a concert at Kyrgyz national Philharmonic but no pleasantries were exchanged between Indian and Pakistani leaders. Pakistan had closed its airspace in February after the Balakot air strikes. "But, unfortunately, we have not had much success from India so far", he said. United States government - the supplier of F-16 planes and parts - has however verified that Pakistani stock of F-16s is complete. China's latest offer to play a facilitator between the two countries and suggestion that India should reciprocate Khan's peace missive was also a factor. "This use of force by the Indian government to subdue has backfired".

However, Indo-Pakistani tensions are believed to have helped Modi win his May 2019 elections by a huge margin.
