(ABC7) - A State Department official confirms the death of another American tourist in the Dominican Republic last week, the eighth to die while on vacation in that country since previous year.

Allen is the most recent confirmed tourist death in the country since Leyla Cox, 53, the Staten Islander who died on June 10 while on vacation for her birthday.

Officials in the Dominican Republic have called the deaths isolated events as they work to reassure travelers their country is safe.

Flowers says that it took almost three weeks before he started to feel better, losing 14 pounds during the ordeal. "The Dominicans said that I had to sign papers giving them permission to take her to a funeral home, and if I didn't do that in four hours, they were going to consider her a 'Jane Doe.' They said I had to give them permission to cremate her or embalm her, or I would never get my mother back", Cox told Fox News.

Though Corcoran's death has been associated with the list of mysterious fatalities, his sister said he died of a heart attack and his death does not appear suspicious, the Advance previously reported.

Dominican Republic leaders maintain the country is one of the region's top tourism destinations - with more than 6 million tourists past year - 2.2 million of them Americans, according to the Caribbean Tourism Organization. His death was also ruled to be caused by a heart attack.

Matthew Bradley, regional security director for the risk management firm International SOS, said in a statement this month that the Dominican Republic is still a safe destination.

Maryland residents Cynthia Ann Day, 49, and Nathaniel Edward Holmes, 63, were supposed to have checked out of the neighboring Grand Bahia Principe La Romana on May 30 when a hotel worker found them dead in their room. He told People Magazine some on the trip did not feel normal for months. The couple had internal bleeding, including in their pancreases, Dominican authorities said. According to the hotel, Schaup-Werner's husband said she had had a heart condition.

Just five days before Day and Holmes' bodies were found, a Pennsylvania woman collapsed and died at the Baha Principe hotel.

Businesswoman and "Shark Tank" TV star Barbara Corcoran said her brother died in his hotel room in the Dominican Republic in late April.

Last July, David Harrison, 45, died at the same hotel, according to his wife, Dawn McCoy.

"She's been sick ever since the trip", Flowers said. Day additionally had fluid around her brain. He had a heart attack, but an autopsy showed he also had fluid in his lungs, as did the three tourists who died most recently. We are closely monitoring the local authorities' investigation.

"They found him on the floor", Reed said. She had traveled there with a group of friends, her first vacation in eight years, Nieves said.

The State Department also warns travelers not to drink alcohol alone or with new acquaintances, or to leave drinks unattended.

Officials have not said what caused Wallace's death; his stepson said that family members are expecting toxicology reports by the end of June.
