MEGADETH's Dave Mustaine Diagnosed With Throat Cancer

"I've been diagnosed with throat cancer".

Summerfest officials announced Monday, June 17 that the concert at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater on July 4 with Megadeth and special guests Papa Roach, Pop Evil, and Badflower has been canceled due to health issues.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are also still pushing ahead with work on their first new record since 2016's Dystopia, whilst Mustaine says he is "thankful" to his fellow band mates, team and his doctors for their support at this hard time.

Mustaine says: "I've been diagnosed with throat cancer".

"I'm working closely with my doctors, and we've mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90 percent success rate", he added.

"Unfortunately, this requires that we cancel most shows this year", the statement read.

The MegaCruise, a cruise with stops in San Diego, Calif., and Ensenada, Mexico, is scheduled to take place October 13-18. "All up-to-date information will be at as we get it. Megadeth will be back on the road ASAP".

The American Cancer Society reports that approximately 53,000 diagnoses of "oral cavity or oropharyngeal cancer" are given each year, and of those cases, almost a fifth prove to be fatal. "I'll keep everyone posted". He left to form Megadeth, which has gone on to earn 12 Grammy nominations and a Grammy Award in 2017 in the "Best Metal Performance" category for the title track "Dystopia".

"While we are obviously disappointed that Megadeth won't be playing the Illinois State Fair, our main concern is for Dave Mustaine", said Kevin Gordon, Illinois State Fair Manager.
