IIT Bombay emerges best Indian institute in QS Rankings

Quaid-e-Azam University was ranked 511 on criteria of 77.4 citations per faculty, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) 701 for its employer reputation, while COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore and University of Punjab were ranked 801 on global list of 1,000 top universities.

Hopkins landed at No. 24 out of 1,000 universities worldwide in rankings compiled by global higher education analysts at Quacquarelli Symonds.

Despite declines in three indicators, global academics continue to express positive sentiment about standards in Irish universities, with six of the eight institutions improving their rating.

14th - Cornell University, US.

QS research director Ben Sowter said: "Prolonged appearances among the global top 20 have ensured that Singapore's leading universities have earned the right to classify themselves among the world's leading universities, according to our methodology and data set".

16th - Columbia University, US. It was ranked 268th, up from 315th previous year, according to the report.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology is named the world number one in the table for a record eighth consecutive year.

While Trinity has dropped in the latest rankings, University College Dublin (UCD) rose eight places to 185th - and 80th in Europe - as did NUI Galway, up to 259th place.

"Sowter added that Cambridge's drop is not necessarily a sign that the university is struggling, as it reflects the fact that it is now spending more on teaching rather than research: "[This] should be perceived as a sensible strategic decision created to ensure that Cambridge's reputation for outstanding teaching and highly employable graduates continues into the future".

The university also was ranked 12th out of 157 USA and 183 North American schools.

Bar-Ilan University came in at the range of 551-560, up from 601-650 previously, whereas the University of Haifa maintained its position at 651-700.

In April, Massey was also ranked 38 in the world in the inaugural Times Higher Education impact rankings, which measures how universities are working towards fulfilling the United Nations sustainable development goals.

"While this new edition of the QS World University Rankings shows that the Indian Higher Education system is making progress in some key areas, the sector requires more substantial, sustained and strategic investments both in research and education".
