Playing favorites: Woodland's three shots get him a US Open win

Bodenhamer said his goal for the week was to "get out of the way and let the golf course and the players be the story". So, Cowen's wards have reached the summit at the last three US Opens.

It was at one shot when Woodland drove to the middle of the fairway on the par-5 14th, faced with the choice between laying up, the way most players have all week, or going for it and hoping the shot would hold on the severely sloping putting surface. Woodland invited her to play the par-3 16th, and Amy hit into a bunker, blasted onto the green and made the par putt, all the while saying, "You got this". I'll be back later today or tomorrow with my previews but just before I go. I could get around, I could do stuff, but defensively I wasn't quick enough. I gave it my all.

He preserved it with a ideal pitch from the green at 17, where his tee shot left him on the wrong end of the hourglass putting surface.

"Gary played a hell of a round today", Koepka said.

They are not completely away from the pack though and will have an eye on Brooks Koepka, who shot three-under yesterday to sit four back from leader Woodland. I didn't have my A-game this week.

How much was Gary Woodland's US Open payout? Woodland could win the tournament with three putts.

Men from the United States have now won nine of the past 10 majors and, if one can lift the Claret Jug next month in the British Open at Royal Portrush, Americans will have swept all four in a year for the first time since 1982.

Hit by United States curbs, Huawei expects 2019 revenue to shrink
Ren, 74, said Huawei planned to cut production by $30 billion over the next two years to ride out the storm. Huawei has said its work does not pose any threats and that it is independent from the Chinese government.

"I'm not chasing, really, I'm so close to Gary that I have to go out and play my game and I think it's going to be dictated by the pin placements and the weather to how aggressive you can be and what it will take to win". However, a three-shot overnight lead disappeared in the final round before he produced an incredible birdie-eagle-birdie-birdie run beginning at 14 to earn a three-shot win over Matt Kuchar.

Cowen sees Woodland as a "nice" guy and he wants him to be ruthless as Koepka is. Something wonderful happened to Woodland.

Of the four other players who had a shot at three straight U.S. Opens, no one came closer than Koepka.

"At the time, it felt significant", Koepka said. Paul Azinger tipped Justin Rose (one shot back before the final round) to get the job done, Rory McIlroy (five back) knew he needed a fast start and just about everyone else was looking out for Koepka. Cool way to go out on 18, to make that bomb. He now has a victory in the PGA Championship and runner-up finishes in the Masters and U.S. Open.

Rose, who'd began the week trading at around [34.0], drifted right out to [55.0] before he teed off late on Thursday but he hit a low of [2.08] when he birdied the first on Sunday to draw alongside Woodland.

Koepka made a strong push with four birdies on the front nine and one on the back nine to trail Woodland by two strokes into the final three holes. Woods secured a one-shot victory, birdies at the 15th and 16th holes closing out a memorable win.

The Spaniard glided around the course with aplomb, shooting rounds of 69-70-70-68 to finish on seven-under par in a tie for third place and for his best finish at a major yet. He tied for 21st, 11 shots behind.
