"Well, look, I think the point she was trying to make is that this is serious", he said. "Not only to the nation but to the world. She does not understand history", he continued. And by doing so, they insist, she belittles the ways Jews suffered when the Nazis turned the camps into death camps.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., comparing USA detention facilities for migrants to "concentration camps" are hurting the agents who care for the children at the border, the acting ICE director claimed.

On Meet the Press Daily, host Chuck Todd singled out Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's recent comments about "concentration camps" on the US Southern border and castigated "sheepish" Democrats who didn't call them out as proof that both sides of the political spectrum "cannot talk about right and wrong anymore". "That the fact that concentration camps are now an institutionalized practice in the home of the free is extraordinarily disturbing, and we need to do something about it".

Ocasio-Cortez then linked to an Esquire article quoting Andrea Pitzer, author of "One Long Night: A Global History of Concentration Camps". Last week, the Department of Health and Human Services, which is tasked with caring for unaccompanied migrant children, said it would use facilities at Fort Sill Army Base in Oklahoma to house minors.

"I was there 2014, 2016, and I'm here now", he said.

In addition to Fort Sill, the agency said in its statement that it is also considering housing unaccompanied migrant children at the Santa Teresa Land Port of Entry in New Mexico, because existing shelters are at capacity.

Leave it to Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez to put politicians in check on Twitter-this time it's her fellow Democrats.

Two Shot at Toronto Raptors' Championship Parade
He stay? We'll have to wait and see, but if Kawhi's mood at today's parade was any indication, he seems to like it in Toronto . Tory and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau were with the Raptors players on stage at the rally when the shots occurred.

"This is a crisis for ourselves. We would hope that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez knows better, but sadly, she does not", said Republican Jewish Coalition on Tuesday.

"I don't use those words lightly". I don't use those words just to throw bombs. You referred to but the character of a government, "the concentration camps" is creating.

"AOC should ask Holocaust survivors and ex-GIs who liberated Dachau what that charnel House was like", Rabbi Abraham Cooper, the SWC's associate dean and director of global social action for the leading worldwide Jewish Human Rights NGO, told JNS.

That's when Republicans like Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) piled on Ocasio-Cortez for the comparison, accusing her of misrepresenting history. The New York representative had compared the detention centers to concentration camps and invoked the phrase "never again", a direct reference to the Holocaust.

"There is a very clear academic consensus on what constitutes a concentration camp, and that is the mass detention of a community of people without a trial or due process", the Democratic congresswoman told CNN reporter Manu Raju.

Ocasio-Cortez has defended her remarks, which have been praised by some Democrats and even actor and activist George Takei, who was interned by the USA government alongside fellow Japanese Americans during World War II.
