The Midlands club have made quick progress in negotiations with Southampton and an agreement has been reached between the two clubs for Targett's move to Villa Park.

Cape Town - Newly-promoted Premier League side Aston Villa have secured the signing of left-back Matt Targett from Southampton for £11 million.

Targett is Villa's fifth deal of the summer following the permanent signing of loan players Kortney Hause and Anwar El Ghazi, the free signing of Jota from Birmingham and the club-record swoop for Club Brugges striker Wesley Moraes.

"We're very pleased to have Matt join us".

Targett did make 21 appearances for the club last season but is still behind Ryan Bertrand for a starting place.

The 23-year-old ends a 15-year association with his boyhood club as he completed a move on Monday, with Sky Sports News understanding the fee to be around £11m.

The Dalai Lama's shift on Trump could be in part because of the president's relationship with China's Xi Jinping. He specifically criticised Trump for what he believes is his "lack of moral principle".

According to reports, Villa have paid £16m for the defender.

Villa are getting their business done early this summer and that should help them when the season comes around, with new players having plenty of time to integrate.

Targett played a key role in Fulham's promotion to the Premier League when he was on loan from Southampton during the second half of the season before last.

Villa are gearing up for a return to the Premier League after winning the Championship Playoff final back in May.

"You can see with the track history - the amount of young players they're playing, the gaffer's belief in the young players, the squad in itself - where the club is going to be".
