The GT MkII's 3.5-litre V6 Ecoboost engine has been uprated and now produces 700bhp, up from 647bhp in the road auto and 493bhp in the firm's GTE Pro Le Mans racer.

Since weight savings were a priority, the passenger seat in the GT Mk II is optional.

The interior has been stripped of its innards and redesigned to a certain degree to accommodate the custom Sparco racing seats Ford commissioned for this model. It also has a full roll-cage.

That means the 3.5-liter turbocharged engine in the GT Mark II will produce 53 horsepower more than the "standard" Ford GT road vehicle and 203 horsepower more than the Le Mans-winning Ford GT race auto. "It's the closest GT owners can get to the LeMans-winning performance and exhilarating feeling of crossing the finish line in the Ford GT race auto".

Ford said the GT Mk II was created to prove what the Ford GT can be if all restrictions for street use or racing requirements are removed.

The latest variant of the auto is presented this week at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK. The usual model costs $450,000, and the GT line will likely be limited to 1,350 cars before its manufacturing run ends in 2022.

What could prove particularly enticing to well-heeled buyers is that the special edition makes no compromises needed to comply with specific track or race series rules. Ford does not say just how fast the new track version can be.

"The true, off-the-hook performance capability of the GT hasn't yet been fully showcased", added Larry Holt, Multimatic's Chief Technical Officer.

Suffice to say, the Ford GT Mk II drops any hint of being road-legal.

The Ford GT Mk II is a track-day advancement of the GT supercar that's more powerful and gives better handling than the road vehicle. Instead of the racecar transmission, Ford chose to re-tune the seven-speed Getrag dual-clutch used in the street auto.

GT Mk II is also lighter and more agile. It also is equipped with huge brakes to stop the beast. The brakes are Brembo carbon ceramic units that measure 15.5 inches up front and 14.1 inches in the rear. The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires from the Ford GT are out; the Ford GT Mk II uses Michelin Pilot Sport track slicks mounted on 19-inch tires.

Ford ended its GT racing program in the FIA World Endurance Championship at the 2019 Le Mans in the GTE Pro class. In the 1960s, then Ford President Henry Ford II, (Hank the Deuce) wanted the most prestigious racing crowns in Europe - more specifically, he wanted Le Mans. The Ford GTs will continue to race through the remainder of the IMSA season, which culminates at Road Atlanta in October.

The front fascia and hood of the Mk II are similar to the street auto as well as the stylized Ford GT headlamps with signature running lights. While not built for the track as its predecessors had been, the GT90 was a bleeding-edge tech demonstration and for a time was the fastest auto in the world.
