Cause of wireless voice outage unclear, some intermittent problems may persist

As of Sunday night, Rogers had its network teams working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

"Voice services are restoring with a very limited number of customers experiencing intermittent interruption to voice calls", said Rogers spokesperson Michelle Kelly.

Rogers' customers tweeted to RogersHelps in frustration as many were not able to make or receive calls on Sunday.

At the moment, the issue remains isolated and is only affecting call services.

CTV News has asked Rogers and Freedom Mobile what caused the issues but has not been given an answer.

The service interruption may intermittently affect some customers using 2G and 3G networks on Rogers, Fido and Chatr. Shaw did not immediately respond to questions about 911 service.

In 2017, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission asked telephone and wireless companies to update their networks in preparation for next-generation emergency services, referred to as NG-911. Text messages, Internet and data services were not affected. "It's time to find some sort of regulation across all regions to follow one level of service or adapt to include all different types of mediums".

It says those problems were resolved about 1 a.m. Monday.
