President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Tuesday night in support of Home Depot after social media calls to boycott the home improvement retailer.

In his interview with the Journal-Constitution, Marcus said that while Trump "sucks" at communication, the president has "got a businessman's common sense approach to most things". One invitee, Florida bait and tackle shop owner Bruce Hrobak, praised what he considered the administration's efforts against water-fouling algae before pumping his fist in the air and declaring: "Trump 2020". He also repeatedly emphasized the role a strong economy plays in environmental protections.

"We will defend the environment but we will also defend American sovereignty, American prosperity, and we will defend American jobs", he said.

White House Council for Environmental Quality Chair Mary Neumayr repeatedly emphasized during the call that the President's message would be focused on touting improving environmental protections alongside a thriving economy.

"President Trump has a political problem, one that he created and certainly didn't solve by today's surreal press event,", according to Joe Bonfiglio, the president of EDF Action, which is the lobbying arm of the Environmental Defense Fund.

He churns out social media content that has been shared by U.S. President Donald Trump and a year ago won a $10,000 meme contest run by Infowars, the website founded by conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. The visible toxic algae blooms and green slime plaguing Lake Erie and other waterways in recent years are visual evidence that the Trump administration's anti-environmental policies are moving the Midwest backwards not forwards.

"I just find this completely untrue", Gross, a former director of the Energy Department's Office of International Climate and Clean Energy, told VOA.

At the same time, he insisted on the importance of economic growth.

U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry speaks during an event touting the Trump administration's environmental policy in the East Room of the White House, July 8, 2019.

Trump's speech came after rainfall around Washington broke seasonal records, raised creeks up to 11 feet (3.3 meters) and flooded the White House basement.

But activists, including Sierra Club chief Michael Brune, were not impressed. However, the EPI states the USA ranks 10th for air quality and 29th for water and sanitation quality. "We continue to clean up the water", Wheeler said.

"It's not like the president or the administration has been subtle about their environmental agenda", said EDF Action's Bonfiglio. The US president, who has called climate change a Chinese hoax, dismissed a report previous year by his own government warning of massive economic losses should carbon emissions continue to feed climate change unchecked.
