Rohr was positive about the veteran midfielder's progress, saying: "Mikel is trying to run already, so we will see if he could be fit one time for [South Africa] clash".

However, in a rebuttal Bafana Head Coach Stuart Baxter returned the compliment with a slight dig, " I don't think he's fooling anybody", he said in his presser.

"We will go into the game as we do every game".

"I believe we are going to put in a good fight and make sure that we make Nigeria proud". "We will have to produce a very good South Africa performance to beat them".

After taking a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute itself, Nigeria were pegged back in the closing stages of the first half with Cameroon opening the door and forcing themselves right back in the contest. Baxter oversaw a 2-0 away win in Uyo at the start of the campaign before a 1-1 draw in Johannesburg.
