This is what Arsenal said in an official statement on the club website.

Koscielny joined Arsenal in 2010 and is out of contract at the end of the coming season.

Heading into his second campaign as manager Emery was counting on Koscielny, whose present contract expires in June 2020, but the Tulle-born forward has unilaterally made a decision to skip their USA trip.

Arsenal confirmed the news in a statement that said: "We are very disappointed by Laurent's actions, which are against our clear instructions".

Arsenal have been linked with several defenders to help them sure things up at the back, and with this gesture from Koscielny, it is possible that he could be on his way out.

Sport report that Ligue 1 side Bordeaux have offered Koscielny a three-year deal, while Rennes and Lyon are also interested. "We hope to resolve this matter and will not be providing any further comment at this time". Last season Emery dealt with Mesut Ozil being unhappy and the Spanish coach was all about unity and having a collective spirit following Arsene Wenger's departure.

Koscielny's future is now in doubt ahead of the season opener at Newcastle on August 11 and the situation may leave Arsenal needing to recruit another centre-back in the transfer window.

This stance has clearly angered Koscielny, who believes after nine years of service he deserves to leave on his terms.

What a mess. Koscielny hasn't conducted himself well here, and Arsenal putting this out in the open has escalated the seriousness of the situation.
