Chelsea held by Bohemians in Lampard’s first match in charge

New Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admitted his side need to boost their fitness after a draw with Bohemians.

Chelsea initially put themselves ahead in the friendly when Michy Batshuayi - who has spent the last 18 months out on loan - opened the scoring after just eight minutes.

Eric Molley, a trialist, equalised in the final minute following a spell of pressure by the home side. It was a tough game for us, we've only been here for a few days. But I refuse to get caught up in, 'Because a famous footballer is loved by a club, it's going to work.' It honestly makes little to no difference in the long term, it's whether you're a good manager, that's what it comes down to. "I want to stretch them because that's what preseason is all about".

Lampard had insisted that he would offer all of his players clean slate and he remained good to his word, with teenager Ethan Ampadu, barely used by Sarri, partnering Drinkwater in a holding midfield two.

Pedro skied a free-kick over the crossbar as Chelsea dominated the first half, although Caballero was forced into a first save when former Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Danny Mandroiu forced the Argentine goalkeeper to punch a dipping shot away.

With the game being more about getting a closer look at his new set of players, it's safe to assume that Lampard would've preferred to have got his managerial career at Chelsea off to winning ways. Some of the young lads were really good. Ward drove from midfield after sloppy Chelsea passing and played in Molloy, who showed impressive composure to fire beyond Jamie Cumming and into the top corner.

Lampard will be hoping to get his first win on Saturday when the Blues face St Patrick's Athletic at Richmond Park.
