News reports on Friday said ICE agents were meeting in the Collier County portion of Diaz-Balart's district to prepare for the weekend raids. President Trump says, " We will be removing large numbers of people". "We're focused on criminals as much as we can before we do anything else".

Trump later announced those operations were being postponed.

"I'll reshape CBP and ICE from top to bottom, focusing their efforts on homeland security efforts like screening cargo, identifying counterfeit gods and preventing smuggling and trafficking", she wrote.

"Those of us who have lived through dictatorships understand what it's like to live under constant fear, we understand what it means to be disappeared", said Democratic Rep. "Nothing to be secret about".

"If the word gets out, it gets out", he said. "It's a major operation".

President Donald Trump spoke to reporters in Washington ahead of the weekend operation.

A week later at the G20 summit, Trump said his administration still planed to launch a series of ICE raids sometime after the end of that two week period, which would be after the July Fourth holiday.

Who exactly is being targeted?

Most of those arrests are made without any advance publicity.

The New York Times first reported on the upcoming raids, saying they are expected to take place in at least 10 cities.

In 2017, ICE apprehended 650 individuals during a four-day operation, dubbed Operation Border Guardian/Border Resolve, which targeted families and unaccompanied children.

Officials say ICE agents are targeting immigrants who have been ordered out but remain in the country illegally.

ICE raids have already started in California, ahead of plans to round up thousands of immigrants across the USA this weekend, according to a group of lawyers. "It is clearly all part of what the administration sees as a way to get deterrence".

Immigration experts said Sunday's operation is spreading fear in South Florida communities. They also directed anyone wanting to help the immigrant community to donate to the Denver Immigrant Legal Services Fund, which helps provides free legal counsel to people who face possible deportation.

"I warn President Trump, the pictures of these raids aren't going to be pretty", Schumer said on the Senate floor.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement will target families whose immigration cases were handled through an expedited court process that began in 2018, the acting ICE director said last month.

After the original raids were delayed, Acting ICE Director Mark Morgan said operational details that had been reported were to blame.

"They came in illegally", he told reporters at the White House. The interactive training sessions teach undocumented immigrants their various rights, like ICE agents are not legally allowed to forcibly enter their home.

"Stay calm and keep the door closed". "Not knowing that they don't have to open up the door unless there's a warrant signed by a judge".
