VRT stated that 153 of those conversations should "never have been recorded" as the wake phrase given to Google Home, "OK Google" was never given, thus the devices should not be enabled.

On leak issue, the tech giant said that one of their language reviewers has violated the data-security policies by leaking confidential Dutch audio data that Google has been investigating.

The reaction came after reports surfaced that third-party contractors working for Google are recording and secretly listening to users' bedroom conversations via Google Assistant on smartphones, home speakers and security cameras.

Google still denies the fact that they're invading the privacy of its users by stating that they're only using those recordings to help them understand users better and ease the life of its users by providing more improved and updated products.

"We are conducting a full review of our safeguards in this space to prevent misconduct like this from happening again", he wrote.

Google reportedly notified the Irish Data Protection Commissioner about the data breach.

Google Home smart speakers sometimes transmits people's conversations to Google even when they don't intend to interact with the devices, the company admitted this week.

A spokesman for the company told Wired only 0.2% of all recordings are accessed by humans for transcription, and that the audio files are stripped of identifying user information. Other than that they don't save any of the recordings of the users.

However, the report from VRT found recordings of users that had identifiable information, including one person's address and other personal information, like a family discussing their grandchildren by name, another user discussing their love life, and one user talking about how quickly a child was growing.

VRT NWS, with the help of a whistleblower, was able to listen to more than 1,000 excerpts recorded via Google Assistant.

Despite assurances that they are not recording us when we don't know and then sending out these recordings to contractors, it's still not convincing enough for us to fully trust that they respect our privacy and security. "This is a critical part of the process of building speech technology and is necessary to creating products like the Google Assistant".
