Already we've had Top Gun: Maverick and It Chapter 2, and now we've copped a proper look at HBO and the BBC's new fantasy giant His Dark Materials.

His Dark Materials executive producer Jane Tranter had a firm statement to make about the religious angle, saying the books have are often misunderstood, particularly by those who haven't read them.

The series is based on the trilogy of novels by Philip Pullman, which are set in an alternate world where humans are tied to animal-like reflections of themselves, or "daemons", which also will factor into the storytelling big-time.

"You know these small tropical monkeys?" Main character Lyra Belacqua's (Keen) daemon is a snow-white ermine voiced by Archie Barnes. In 2007, director Chris Weitz adapted the first book of the His Dark Materials trilogy, The Golden Compass, for the big screen with stars Nicole Kidman, Dakota Blue Richards, Daniel Craig, Sam Elliott, Eva Green, and Ian McKellen. With her new device and natural curiosity, Lyra finds herself in the center of a power struggle around Dust, as Mrs. Coulter (Wilson) and others yearn to control it. "As she journeys through the worlds, including our own, Lyra meets Will (Amir Wilson), a determined and courageous boy".

Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman sentenced to life in prison
Guzman thanked his family for giving him "the strength to bare this torture that I have been under for the past 30 months". Most inmates at Supermax are given a television, but their only actual view of the outside world is a 4-inch window.

If there's one television show that's predicted to take over from Game Of Thrones, it's the upcoming HBO and BBC collaboration His Dark Materials. "Together, they encounter extraordinary beings and unsafe secrets, with the fate of both the living - and the dead - in their hands".

Lin-Manuel Miranda, left, and James McAvoy participate in the "His Dark Materials" panel on day one of Comic-Con International on Thursday, July 18, 2019, in San Diego.
