Universal Releases First Trailer for "Cats" Musical

The internet is raving mad about how creepy the cast looks with digitally-created fur on actors' bodies and the anthropomorphic cats' human-like faces. Look at all the digital fur technology!

While the trailer has evoked mixed reactions from fans of the original, the movie in itself looks beautifully shot and choreographed.

The trailer racked up more than 100,000 views in the first hour and the #Cats hashtag quickly became the top tending item on Twitter. Based on a book of T.S. Eliot poetry-turned-popular-Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Cats has never made much sense. In this case, a tribe of cats called the Jellicles who have converged as cats rarely do at the annual Jellicle Ball. I'll be honest with you: I do not know how to process these images, directed by Tom Hooper, and based on the famous musical. It's Cats! They're cats!

Cats boasts a bonkers cast to match its bonkers, well, everything, including Dame Judi Dench, Idris Elba, Taylor Swift, James Corden, Jason Derulo, Ray Winstone, Ian McKellen, Rebel Wilson, and more.

Taylor Swift will also star in the film, and opened up about acting as a cat in a behind-the-scenes video on set.

Not all stage plays work as movies and Cats is one of those that instantly comes to mind considering its story is all about...well, cats and features its cast members dressed as felines.

Cats will be the big family film this Christmas, sharpening its claws to take on the mighty Star Wars franchise, when the final film is released the same week.
