Marvel's 'Avengers: Endgame' to set all-time box office record

Once weekend ticket sales are tallied, the tentpole will exceed the $US500,000 needed to surpass Avatar's $US2.7897 billion benchmark.

Disney said the superhero movie has now brought in more than $2.7 billion worldwide.

Avengers: Endgame's global gross was $2.789.2 billion, $500,000 behind Avatar's $2.789.7 billion.

The movie stars Australian Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson and others as a group of superheroes battling the villain Thanos, played by Josh Brolin.

Avengers: Endgame has surpassed James Cameron directed 2009 film "Avatar", to become the highest-grossing movie of all time at the world box office.

The revenue of the company's productivity and business division - which includes Office - increased by 14% in Q4 to $11 bn. Microsoft benefits from being able to bundle Teams as part of a software package that includes email and other products.

"Thanks to you, "Avengers: Endgame" is the biggest film of all time", he told the rabid crowd, which had gathered to hear announcements about Marvel's phase 4 films.

"Avengers: Endgame" got a boost when it was re-released in theaters in late June after it initially premiered on April 26.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed the news as he took the stage at SDCC for Marvel's panel, albeit without revealing actual numbers.

In a statement, Alan Horn, Disney Studios co-chairman and chief creative officer, said the record was a testament to the "power of movies". "You have to shout out to [Avatar director] James Cameron-if you adjust for inflation he still holds that title, but right now, thanks to you folks in Hall H, Avengers: Endgame is the biggest film of all time". The filmmaker will release the first of his four Avatar sequels in 2021. "The talented filmmakers behind these worlds have much more in store, and we look forward to the future of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Pandora", the statement read further.

"James Cameron has always been an idol of ours - he fed our passion for filmmaking from the beginning, and to be so close to one of his great films is really special", said Anthony at San Diego Comic-Con, the world's largest pop culture convention.
