Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro: New gaming smartphone with Snapdragon 855 Plus

After the launch of its second-generation gaming smartphone - Black Shark 2 - in India, Xiaomi-backed company Black Shark will launch its gaming phone - Black Shark 2 Pro in China on July 30, media reports said on Friday.

Xiaomi has two gaming phones - Black Shark and Black Shark 2. The same chipset will first arrive in Asus ROG Phone 2, which is set to launch a week earlier on July 23. Xiaomi has teased the Black Shark 2 Pro. Qualcomm recently announced a new variant of Snapdragon 855 chipset, namely, the Snapdragon 855 Plus and the upcoming Black Shark phone, termed as Black Shark 2 Pro will make use of the latest gaming chipset from Qualcomm. It's not hard to guess the main upgrade that one will bring - the newly unveiled Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset.

As is the case with most smartphones nowadays, ROG Phone 2 has also leaked in its entirety right before its official launch next week.

With respect to design, the Black Shark 2 Pro will likely not differ from the standard version. The further technical data of the gaming smartphone is now still open. Black Shark 2 features a 6.39-inch Full HD+ TrueView Display with a screen resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels along with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 403ppi of pixel density. As per Qualcomm, the new Snapdragon 855 Plus is tailored for gaming, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and machine learning. The chipset has been overclocked by 4% to 2.96GHz from 2.84GHz. The Black Shark 2 Pro will come with the dual-camera setup comprising of a 48 MP primary sensor accompanied by a 12 MP telephoto lens. Black Shark pro has also announced the release of Qualcomm 855 on Weibo page.

As well as other OEMs, Xiaomi is also looking forward to updating one of its flagship offering with the latest Snapdragon 855 Plus. For the front, the phone features a 20-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture.
