Loving Miss Michigan Kathy Zhu dethroned after old 'racist' tweets surface

A MI pageant victor was stripped of her title over what the organization said were "offensive, insensitive, and inappropriate" social media posts.

Kathy Zhu, 20, has been told she's no longer Miss Michigan 2019 because her "social media accounts contain offensive, insensitive and inappropriate content".

Ms Zhu claimed that the decision was made on the basis of her refusal to try on a hijab in 2018 - something that sparked controversy amongst her fellow University of Central Florida students on World Hijab Day on campus - as well as over her tweets about black gun violence. "I am glad this story came to light because this is more than just some beauty pageant, this is about the prejudice views against people with 'different opinions'".

Kathy Zhu, a University of MI student and vociferous supporter of President Donald Trump, was dismissed as a Miss World America contestant because she posted content that the organization determined was in violation of the pageant's code of conduct for participants, according to an email she received from the organization's Chief Operating Officer Robert Gandara. Zhu had tweeted. "Or are you just trying to get women used to being oppressed under Islam?"

Kathy Zhu, a 20-year-old University of MI student, has been vocal about her support of Trump for years, garnering thousands of followers on Instagram and Twitter under the username "Political Kathy". "I have proof of what I tweeted and it was taken completely out of context".

Miss World America, however, does not seem to approve of the student's online activity, according to a purported email from the organization, shared by Zhu on Twitter. Zhu wrote. "What's insensitive is that women in the Middle East are getting STONED TO DEATH for refusing to obey their husband's [sic] orders to wear hijabs".

The other problem was a tweet about black-on-black violence. "They could have looked over my social media".

The stands were packed at Notre Dame Stadium - there hasn't been that much red in the crowd since the Georgia game in 2017. So, apart from that, I'm sure if the Stadium is sold out, it's an incredible place - brilliant.

"I woke up this morning with an overwhelming amount of support; I can't thank you all enough", she wrote to her supporters Friday.

DeJack said that the MWA no longer recognizes her as a "participant of any sort or in any capacity" and demanded she removes all the mentions of her taking part in the pageant.

Zhu is seen in multiple social media posts wearing Trump's Make America Great Again hat. She said the tweets had been "statistics and details".

Miss World America has not commented publicly about the nature of Zhu's dismissal.

What is Zhu saying now?

She said the organization vetted her for Miss Michigan over email, requiring candidates to submit an email application and submit a video. Calling people racist when they're not. "The fact that these pageant people find her views offensive speaks more to their own bigotry than anything else".

Emails to Miss World America were not immediately returned.

Zhu fired back at pageant officials in an email reply to DeJack on Thursday.
