Hongmeng OS is not replacing Android says Huawei

Huawei's proprietary operating system was earlier slated to be an alternative to Android OS for the Chinese tech giant's smartphones, amidst trade tensions with the US government.

According to the state-owned Xinhua outlet, Huawei senior vice-president Catherine Chen said HongMeng OS was for industrial use and that it aims to keep using Android for smartphones. There has been evidence of Huawei working on an operating system called "Harmony OS" for smartphones or computers.

According to the publication, during a roundtable she said Hongmeng was designed for industrial use and that its development started years before Huawei began having trade troubles in the U.S. She said, noting that the operating system contains a fewer line of codes than a phone OS and has much lower latency, which means it can process a high level of data messages with little delay. The constricted number of lines allows Hongmeng to be a secure OS with low latency which is something industrial devices could use easily.

Recently, Huawei is stepping down from the idea of preparing homegrown OS for its devices in replacement for Google's Android. The HongMeng OS was confirmed by Huawei when the USA government banned the Chinese giant.

Last month, some sources knowledgeable about the matter said "Huawei is not fully prepared to launch the OS" as the trade ban came suddenly.

Russian Federation isn't a party in those disputes. "Two Chinese military aircraft also entered the KADIZ", it said. It says Chinese military planes also intruded into South Korea's aerial identification zone on Tuesday.

Anyways, Android OS on both Huawei & Honor smartphones is likely to stay for a while now. While that's probably true, it does appear to contradict earlier reports that the Chinese company was planning on using Hongmeng OS for mobile devices in the event of a permanent ban.

Chen's latest statement is a marked departure from Huawei executives' earlier statements, which suggested that the company was developing Hongmeng as an alternative to Google's Android OS. Huawei remains on the Entity List.

None of this means that Huawei isn't working on a full mobile operating system, of course.

Last month, of course, the US government once again started allowing Huawei to do business with USA companies.

"Google has been arguing that by stopping it from dealing with Huawei, the U.S. risks creating two kinds of Android operating systems: the genuine version and a hybrid one".
