MediaTek takes on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon with a new gaming chipset for phones

They are the first processors to be introduced in MediaTek's gaming-focused G-series. These new gaming-oriented chipsets from MediaTek come with latest GPU and CPU cores that can be found on the latest flagship chipset "Kirin 980" made by Huawei, while the latter is based on a 7nm process the MediaTek's Helio G90 series is built on 12nm process.

These chips clock up to 2.05GHz and can support a 10GB LPDDR4x RAM.

Other features worth mentioning are the support for Dual 4G SIM, MediaTek TAS and Cat-12 4G LTE.

With the chipset, the company is aiming to capture a larger slice of the premium smartphone market.

For improved in-game action-to-display speeds, the HyperEngine technology uses a Rapid Response Engine that is claimed to bring precise timing control.

MediaTek's HyperEngine technology is a broad mix of supporting specs that MediaTek reckons enhance mobile gaming. The photos captured with the help of the aforementioned camera sensors, the picture quality of the image is said to appearing with vivid color and detailed enhancements including HDR 10 as well. There's also intelligent resource allocation that ensures games aren't throttled.

Rumours about MediaTek launching the Helio G90 in Shanghai first surfaced two weeks ago. When it comes to SoCs, most chipmakers have come to integrate new features into their products in pushing for a strident gaming experience, but MediaTek has made a decision to christen a new line of chipsets for devices dedicated to the grind.

At the time of writing it isn't made clear by MediaTek what the difference between the Helio G90 and G90T is (the G90T being the more powerful part).

The Helio G90T has an ARM Mali-G76 3EEMC4 processor clocked at 800MHz.
