A-Rod, who is engaged to Bronx singing star Jennifer Lopez, was in the California city to broadcast the Giants-Phillies game for ESPN, according to the report.

The baseball legend was working the Philadelphia Phillies - San Francisco Giants game when his rental auto was broken into just a few blocks away from where he was working at Oracle Park Sunday.

ESPN had rented the black Nissan SUV for A-Rod and other members of the channel's production team before it was broken into, the newspaper reported.

"It's an unfortunate situation", an ESPN spokesman told The Washington Post. "We're working with local authorities to address it", ESPN said in a statement.

Rodriguez was in town to call the Giants' game against the Philadelphia Phillies for ESPN, and parked his rental vehicle just a few blocks from Oracle Park when he arrived.

"I am saddened that several items that were of a personal nature and irreplaceable with sentimental value were taken", Rodriguez said. The thief reportedly swiped the former slugger's jewelry, laptop, camera and bag. The 14-time all-star helped the New York Yankees win the World Series in 2009.

Rodriguez's co-analyst on the ESPN program, Jessica Mendoza, missed Sunday's telecast after she was involved in a vehicle collision Friday. ESPN said Mendoza was not seriously injured and was recovering with her family and was expected back in the booth soon.
