The YubiKey 5Ci also offers authentication over a USB-C connection and this means Yubico's latest security key is compatible with almost every laptop and mobile device with a USB-C port.

It's also worth remembering that a vulnerability was found in the Bluetooth security of Google's Titan Security key back in May.

Users of iPhones now can finally catch up to their Android counterparts and use a physical security key as a second factor when logging into mobile accounts that require two-factor authentication (2FA).

Jerrod Chong, Yubico's chief solutions officer, said the new key would fill a "critical gap in the mobile authentication ecosystem", particularly given how users are increasingly spending their time across a multitude of mobile devices. They would then have to log into their password manager of choice and retrieve their password.

At launch, the 5Ci supports a variety of standard password managers, including 1Password, Dashlane, LastPass and Bitwarden.

That's not all, WhatsApp is also in talks with Bank Mandiri, a state-owned financial institution that also runs a digital wallet. WhatsApp is in talks with multiple Indonesian digital payments firms to launch their services in Indonesia, reports Reuters .

Yubico's device can also be used together with the courageous browser for iOS.

Monkton Rebar and XTN also support the YubiKey 5Ci in their latest software development kits. In all these instances, you'll be able to plug in the 5Ci into your iPhone, launch the security app of your selection, and log in to an online account without ever getting into a password. Some of the companies that will soon offer support for Yubico's device include Dropbox, Keeper Security, and SecMaker.

This unique dual-connector functionality makes the YubiKey 5Ci a great solution for consumers or enterprises looking for strong hardware-backed authentication across iOS, Android, MacOS, or Windows devices. "It is the first iOS-friendly security key on the market to offer strong, yet simple authentication over a Lightning connection, while still delivering a unified experience across other mobile, desktop or laptop devices". The security key can be plugged into the USB-C port of laptops or mobile devices to safely access various applications and services such as 101domain, AuthLite, Authlogistics, AuthStack, AwardWallet, AWS Identity Access Management, BitBay, and Bitbucket.

Editor's Note: The Yubico 5Ci and 5 NFC can be purchased online from Yubico, or at several authorised resellers around Australia. While some capabilities are not supported on iPad Pro models with USB-C ports, you can check to see if your device is compatible by checking the company's works with YubiKey catalog.
