In the wake of negotiations that may end Disney and Sony's partnership-and take Spider-Man out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe altogether-at least one Marvel executive producer remains optimistic. While many fans are anxious what this means for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Sony has a chance to take advantage of producing more Spider-Man video games for years to come. "From day one, they have commoditized my father's work and never shown him or his legacy any respect or decency", she said. Apparently Disney, which until now had received 5% of first dollar gross on the MCU-set Spider-Man movies and retained all the Spidey merchandising rights, wanted a 50/50 co-financing arrangement. Should Sony sell? According to Stan Lee's daughter, JC Lee, Disney has been nothing but tremendously disrespectful to Lee's original Marvel legacy. Ever since the news of Sony and Disney's deal ending came out, fans lost their cool and started trending #SaveSpiderman on social media and posting hate comments.

And if there's anything that we've learned in the past few years, that's that Marvel can turn any superhero movie into a massive success without requiring the presence of a well-known hero like Spider-Man.

In a statement to TMZ, Joan Lee said Marvel and Disney (which bought Marvel for $4bn in 2009) need to be "checked and balanced" in their quest for overall control of Lee's work. "Whether it's Sony or someone else's, the continued evolution of Stan's characters and his legacy deserves multiple points of view".

While far from confirmed, this certainly makes sense, as Spider-Man was rumored to have a much bigger role in the next Avengers, conceivably in a leader-type position, mirroring the role his mentor Tony Stark played on the team. However, things between Sony and Disney haven't worked out which resulted in the split between the two.

Millions responded to the this unlikely mix of realistic fantasy, and many of his characters, including Spider-Man, the Hulk and X-Men went on to become stars of blockbuster films. Feige would guide Sony's films, using his muscle and the flex of the whole Marvel cinematic universe. "We hope this might change in the future ..."
